1. Information We Collect

When you use Lightning Ward, we collect:

Account information — your email address, used to sign you in (via emailed sign-in links) and to send service and billing communications.
Site information — the addresses you register for monitoring and the geographic coordinates derived from them.
Alert contact information — names (optional) and mobile phone numbers of the people you add to receive alerts, along with their SMS consent status.
Service records — lightning strikes detected near your sites, the alerts and all-clear messages we send, and when your account accepted our Terms of Service.
Payment records — handled by Stripe (see Section 3); we store your subscription plan and status, not your card details.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use this information solely to operate the Service: monitoring your registered sites, sending lightning alerts and all-clear texts to your contacts, signing you in, processing billing, generating your site activity reports, and providing support. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your or your contacts' information for third-party marketing.

3. Service Providers

We share information with third-party providers only as needed to run the Service:

Twilio — SMS delivery (contact phone numbers, message content). Privacy policy
Stripe — payment processing (your email and payment details; card numbers go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers). Privacy policy
Resend — email delivery for sign-in links and service emails. Privacy policy
Xweather (AerisWeather) — lightning detection data (receives your site coordinates as part of monitoring queries).
Google Maps — address lookup during signup and the map on your status page.
Hosting infrastructure — our application and database run on managed cloud hosting.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and rights of users or the public.

4. Cookies and Sign-In

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in to your dashboard. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. Sign-in links sent to your email expire after a short period and can be used once.

5. Data Retention

Account, site, and contact information is retained while your account is active. Alert and all-clear event history and detected-strike records are retained so that your site activity reports remain available — many customers keep these as compliance documentation. If you stop monitoring a site or close your account, you may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us, and we will delete it except where we need to retain records to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce agreements.

6. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and hashed sign-in tokens. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. SMS Opt-Out

Any alert contact can stop receiving messages at any time by replying STOP to any message, or reply HELP for assistance. Account holders can also remove contacts from the dashboard at any time.

8. Children

The Service is intended for business use by adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date, and material changes will be communicated to active customers by email.
